nora & kids

Nora hopes for her kids that they grow up to see everyone as people and treat them with respect and humanity. “Everything that you do, your kids will learn from and so being a mother teaches me to continually try and be the best version of myself.” Until she met Thomas, having kids isn’t something that was on her radar. When I asked her what is something that surprised her early in parenthood she explains how difficult it is to explain how much you love a child when it is born.

We live upstairs from Nora. Using the same front door, it has been a moderately regular occurence to meet Nora and the kids in the entryway or in front of the house. The image of Nora riding home with all three kids in the front of her cargo bike has been imprinted in my head since the first time I saw it happen and it is something I have wanted to capture ever ever since.

My experience of Nora has always been of someone with supreme patience and kindness. She is firm in protecting her kids from genuine danger and teaching them good manners but also lets them be and explore. We will miss the whole family downstairs when we move out. I am grateful for the memories of watching the kids grow, coming home to one of the loveliest neighborhoods in Basel, and seeing Nora shuttle the kids home in the cargo bike.
