Till is an entrepreneur who really cares about community health, the environment, and intercultural exchange. He’s far more interested in making human connections and doing well for the planet than turning profits. For one he is a founder of Maembe, a non-profit label which produces towels, bags, and clothing in East Africa. In addition to paying fair wages and using sustainable materials, the company shares 5% of its revenue with its workers, allowing them to directly benefit from the company’s performance. Till is also a founder of the ELYS Boulderloft, which just recently opened its doors here in Basel. It’s a 2000 square meter, beautifully designed and inviting bouldering gym that caters to everyone from kids to competitive athletes. When I asked him what’s next he told me that he is looking forward to recharging his batteries this summer. He told me that sometimes it can be difficult to “switch off” and running several projects at once can be a bit of a rollercoaster ride. Till lives in a humble apartment and is very easy to talk to.
