In 1994, the year I was born, a world-renowned photographer named Jim Brandenburg set out to reinvent himself by shooting only 1 photograph each day for 90 consecutive days. I discovered the resulting book, Chased by Light, when I was maybe 5 years old laying on my grandma’s coffee table in the living room. As I flipped through the pages for the first time could not comprehend how someone could be this good at something.
I still don’t. But I want to find out if there’s something I can learn from Jim’s process by embarking on a similar quest. I like photographing people and so I’m setting out to publish 1 portrait every day for 360 days. Here’s to #1:
Robert is a good friend of mine here in Basel. We’ve been working out together outside while the gyms are closed. We often design Crossfit-style “you-go-I-go” workouts in which partner A completes a series of movements while partner B is resting. You trade off doing this for a fixed number of rounds or time. Working out with Robert always hurts in a special kind of way.
