Images have always fascinated me. In any image, any moment, it’s all there at once, pulling and pushing simultaneously. The older I get, the more I am learning to understand myself and the significance that cameras and images have to my being. I suppose it has something to do with finding my place in the world – a way to explore how I relate to everything around me.

As I bike under the Dreirosenbrücke this evening, a little child skating the mini-ramp catches my eye. Sitting on the stairs in the background is a man watching. I start up a conversation and learn that Mark is Marlon’s dad. Mark tells me that skateboarding is Marlon’s first passion. It has only happened once or twice that Marlon is ready to go before Mark is and when it happens the other way around (which is the vast majority of times) Marlon is not happy about it. After I shoot the first few frames, Marlon tells me to put the flash away and then goes back to skateboarding.
